Going back to the origins, the fact that a village recieved a royal

grant to organise its own fair was a clear symptom of population

growth and development.

This is how Vic quickly began to establish itself as a commercial

city that organized fairs, thus setting an influence area beyond

the region of Osona.

Vic becomes a relevant city in terms of fairs and markets where

different economic sectors meet to offer a wide range of products

and services.

In addition, these events become a valuable place to meet,

exchange opinions and where to buid or strenghthen bussiness

relationships.

In 1985 the Patronat Municipal del Mercat del Ram was established. This

was an entity with the purpose of carrying out these commercial

activities. Later on, in 1989, it became the Patronat de Fires i Mercats.

In paralel with the growth of the city and the fairs and marke' team, the

Patronat de Fires i Mercats dissolved and in 1995 the statues of a new

entity were approved, the Institut Municipal de Promoció i Economia de

Vic (IMPEVIC). That same year, the offices of fais and markets were

moved to El Sucre Building.

Fairs need a setting in the city to develop properly. That is why in 1995

works began on the fairgrounds El Sucre, to design a modern space to

host traditional fairs, but also new fair proposals.

In 1997, this new building was inaugurated with more than 5.000m2 of

surface area, distributed in different multipurpose spaces that

complemented the spaces and the auditiorium of the El Sucre building.

In 2013, a corporate brand for Vic Ferias y Mercados was created.

As time goes by, improvement of fairs and events in Vic required a

change of entity and updating of the statutes. Thus, in 2025, ImpeVic

became the Organisme Autònom de Fires i Mercats (OFIM).

In 2017, Vicfires corporate image was incorporated.

Vic is nowadays a benchmark in fairs and markets thanks to events

such as Mercat del RamMercat de Música Viva de Vic, Mercat

Medieval Medieval, or more specific proposals like Lactium, Fira de la

Muntanya, Fira de l'Energia i la Construcció Sostenible or BIT

congress.

All together, they make up a fair calendar that fills the whole year.
